Debenhams to close seven stores | News

Debenhams, which appointed advisory business FRP Advisory as directors final 7 days, explained it experienced agreed phrases with landlords on around a hundred and twenty of its 142 shops, but confirmed that an original 7 would close permanently. 

Chief government Stefaan Vansteenkiste explained: ‘“I’m delighted with the development we are making with our landlord conversations which reflects the pragmatic check out the wide majority of them are getting of the recent current market ailments.

”We have agreed phrases on the wide majority of our Uk shops and talks are proceeding positively on the remainder, positioning us to reopen these shops when governing administration laws allow.

”Regrettably, we have been unable to access settlement on 7 shops and these will not be reopening, and I’d like to convey my thanks to our colleagues in these shops at what I know is a tough time for absolutely everyone.”

The shops established to close are: 

  • Truro 
  • Stratford-on-Avon
  • Salisbury
  • Westfield 
  • Warrington
  • Leamington Spa
  • South Shields 

Drapers understands there could be more retail store closures dependent on landlord conversations. 

It follows the news that the department retail store has liquidated its Irish business.
